King David Dictates the Psalms

Late 10th or 11th century
Ivory book cover
The Louvre, Paris
Origin: Abbey of Saint-Denis

Instead of a harp, dictation to four scribes is used to signify David's authorship of the Psalms. Perhaps this seemed more appropriate for the cover of a book which may have been copied by scribes from dictation.
